From OEM to Brand: The Transformation Journey of Meidi Medical
More than 20 years ago, when Meidi Medical was still a little-known contract manufacturing factory, few could have foreseen what it would become today—a professional manufacturer integrating R&D, production, and sales in the field of medical-grade cleaning and care paper products, serving over 300 Grade-A tertiary hospitals across China, with products exported overseas.
This transformation from OEM to brand embodies more than two decades of persistence and exploration by Meidi's founders and their team.
Building Capabilities Through OEM – Winning Market Trust with Technical Expertise
In 2000, Meidi started as a small regional hygiene products factory, initially providing OEM services for well-known domestic brands. For a long time, behind the maternity care packages and postpartum tissues of brands such as "October Crystal" and "Aifu," Meidi's production lines were quietly operating.
OEM was not the end, but the beginning. During years of manufacturing for others, Meidi accumulated solid production experience and technical know-how. In 2014, Meidi became the first in the industry to launch a "postpartum confinement paper" product, filling a gap in the maternal and infant market. Subsequently, the company introduced medical hand towels, ultrasound probe wipes, and other specialized products, gradually building its own product portfolio.
At the end of 2016, Meidi introduced internationally advanced ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization equipment, filling another market gap for sterile postpartum paper. That same year, it obtained the "5C Clean Patent Certificate," gaining meaningful proprietary intellectual property. This step laid a solid technical foundation for Meidi's shift from OEM to branding.
The Strategic Shift – From Private Label to Own Brand
No matter how successful the OEM business became, it ultimately created value for others. Meidi's founding team recognized this early. They were not content with annual growth exceeding 30% and partnerships with over 100 OEM brands. Instead, they set their sights on a farther goal—building their own brand.
From replicating others' designs to holding proprietary production patents, from simple make-to-order processing to co-developing new products with clients.
Focusing deeply on the professional track of medical standards and maternal/infant care, transforming medical-grade technology into core competitiveness.
The transition was not without challenges. As a corporate 20th-anniversary review put it: "Over 20 years, Meidi has experienced confusion and setbacks, but in the end, it has always ridden the waves."
Brand Rise – Building Professional Barriers with Medical Standards
Today, Meidi has a full-category product matrix covering medical, maternal/infant, pet, fresh produce, and other fields. The core competitiveness of the brand comes from successfully converting medical-grade technology into civilian and professional care products.
Meidi has established a three-tier quality defense system: from the national standard (bacterial count <600 CFU/g) to its enterprise standard (<200 CFU/g) and finally its internal control standard (<5 CFU/g).
It operates a GMP Class 100,000 cleanroom, holds the 5C Clean Patent, and offers three mainstream sterilization processes: high-temperature, ethylene oxide (EO), and gamma irradiation. It has also independently developed the "Salt-Pass Antibacterial" patented technology—its quaternary ammonium salt product line maintains an effective antibacterial rate of over 99.9% for up to 365 days after opening.
Moreover, as a reliable SPD source manufacturer with all necessary certifications and patents, Meidi provides hospitals with one-stop supply chain service. It supports OEM/ODM customization and operates a transparent factory open for client visits with full quality traceability.
These professional barriers have earned Meidi's own brand deep market recognition. Currently, Meidi serves over 300 Grade-A tertiary hospitals nationwide, with products used in operating rooms, ICUs, and central sterile supply departments.
Looking Ahead – From "Made in China" to "Brand from China"
In 2025, Meidi partnered with a well-known pharmaceutical company in Jinan to formally join a joint laboratory at Shandong University Qilu Hospital, shifting from traditional "manufacturing" to "smart manufacturing," driving the rise of domestic high-end medical consumables through innovation. That same year, core products including medical hand towels obtained EU CE certification, accelerating the expansion into overseas markets.
Today, it has become one of the leading brands in China's medical care paper sector, with products sold overseas. And it continues to evolve—extending from healthcare settings into daily life, from domestic markets onto the global stage.
Behind this brand slogan lies a corporate commitment unchanged for over two decades, and the most steadfast testament to the challenging journey from OEM to brand.
